Mammoth Cave Wax Museum-Geronimo

(1829-1909)

Here's a picture of Geronimo, from the Mammoth Cave Wax Museum. He was an Apache medicine man and warrior who fought the American government during its expansion into the west. After years of fighting, Geronimo finally surrendered to the United States Government in 1886. The figure is a pretty good representation and looks to be Geronimo when he was in his late 50's or early 60's.

A closer view of the wax figure. Geronimo died in 1909 in an Oklahoma prison, and was buried at the Apache Indian Prisoner of War Cemetery.

Movieland Wax Museum- Tourist With Camera

One of the few figures in the Movieland Wax Museum that did not focus on any movie or television show is this tourist figure that looks suspiciously like the keystone cop that used to roam Movieland. The figure itself was referred to as male extra in the museum's literature. It is wearing an old movieland shirt that was apparently worn at the museum as a uniform, and an awesome pair of Zubaz.

A shot of the figure as it would have looked in the museum. The Kodak disc camera that it is holding was rigged to continually flash. This created a sort of strobe effect.

A close up of the figure with flash. (mine, not the disc camera's)

The wax figure sold at the Movieland auction for $900. Four boxes of the Movieland uniforms sold for $400.

In the center is Judge Nathaniel Pendleton (1756-1821).

News- Criss Angel Appears at Madame Tussaud's

This past week, Madame Tussaud's wax museum in Las Vegas unveiled a new figure of magician and entertainer Criss Angel. The figure has a contemporary mystical pose, highlighting his dark, and mysterious image. The figure is shirtless, and only a vest covers its top. Sculpting muscles can be very difficult, but they seem realistic, as well as pretty ripped.

The real Criss Angel along with the wax figure.

Here's a close up of the figure from the Madame Tussaud's studios.

Potter's Wax Museum- John I

(1167-1216)

Here we see John I of England. Considered one of the worst kings in English history, John the "lackland" held feuds with France, the Pope, and his own subjects. English Barons attempted to overthrow him, and after victory at Runnymede, made him sign the Magna Charta. He wasn't about to honor the agreement, and during a civil war, John died from Pneumonia.

Wax Museum at Fisherman's Wharf- Jennifer Lopez

On the rotating platform outside the Wax Museum at Fisherman's Wharf we find actress and singer Jennifer Lopez. She is dressed in her pink gown, and looks very glamorous. The figure is the same one from Movieland Wax Museum's Maid in Manhattan scene.

A closer view of Jennifer's wax figure.

They did a great job with this one. Women are particularly hard to make realistic sculpts of.

Madame Tussauds- Teresa Teng

Chinese pop star Teresa Teng was honored at Madame Tussauds Hong Kong last week with a new outfit that reflects the one she wore at a famous concert tour in Japan. Teresa Teng died in 1995 as a result of an asthma attack, but still remains extremely popular in China.

Madame Tussauds- Joan Rivers

Greeting you as you enter Madame Tussauds Las Vegas is Joan Rivers. Here, she waits to interview you as the super star you are. The museum has a Hollywood Premiere feel to it and as a paying guest you are allowed to mingle with the many celebrities they have to offer.

A closer view of Joan. No microphone, so I guess she doesn't actually want to interview anybody.

And a close up of the figure. You won't find any Joan Rivers is already a wax figure herself jokes here.

Walt Disney World- Erik the Red

Here, at the Norway Pavilion in EPCOT Center we see Erik the Red. The famous Viking spent three years exploring the ice covered island of Greenland. The first European to reach Greenland, Erik founded Viking settlements on the large island.

A full view of the figure. Erik is studying the soil of the new land he discovered.

Here's a short video of the figure. My camera work always seems to consist of zooming in and out really fast.
